COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) proudly hosted a high-profile career seminar, "Career Gateways: Unlocking Job Opportunities in Japan," in collaboration with Plus W, Inc. a leading Japanese Human Resource Firm on Thursday 20th November 2025.
The session provided CUI students with a comprehensive roadmap to professional careers in Japan's dynamic economy.

- Expert Panel: Featuring Mr. Hafiz Muhammad Umair Munir (Head, Pakistan Japan Center, Plus W), Mr. Muhammad Talha (Deputy Head), Ms. Aisha Raja (Bridge Engineer), and a special online address from Mr. Junya Fukui (Senior Director, Plus W, Japan).

National Seminar on Floods, Climate Change & Resilience in Pakistan – COMSATS University Islamabad, 18 September 2025
Department of Meteorology at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) hosted a national seminar titled “Floods, Climate Change & Resilience in Pakistan”, convening experts from academia, government, and civil society to address the country’s growing vulnerability to climate-induced disasters. Prof. Dr. Sohail Asghar, Incharge Islamabad Campus (CUI), advocated for a Triple Helix Model to integrate academic research with policy and industry. Mr. Bilal Anwar, CEO of the National Disaster Risk Management Fund (NDRMF), cautioned against normalizing climate disasters and called for nature-based, inclusive solutions. Prof. Dr. Athar Hussain, Head, Department of Meteorology, emphasized the urgency of climate adaptation. Dr. Muhammad Imran Shahzad, Chairman Meteorology department stressed the need of integrating advance technologies to achieve resilience. The technical session titled “Extreme Weather Events and Forecasting Challenges” featured Dr. Muhammad Latif Assistant Professor at CUI, who analyzed the 2025 South Asian Monsoon, while Dr. Sheraz Ahsan, Remote Sensing Specialist, demonstrated rapid flood assessment using satellite data.
The panel discussion, “Bridging Policy and Practice for Climate Resilience”, brought together distinguished experts, including Dr. Bashir Ahmad (Director and Principal Scientific Officer, CEWRI, NARC-PARC), Dr. Hameed Jamali (Climate Resilience Specialist), and Dr. Shahzada Adnan (Deputy Director, Pakistan Meteorological Department). Panelists underscored the need for inter-agency coordination, regulation of urban expansion, and implementation of climate frameworks. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming COMSATS University’s commitment to climate education and disaster preparedness. The event marked a significant step toward fostering evidence-based dialogue and collaborative action for a climate-resilient Pakistan.

Islamabad, September 11, 2025 — It was a day of fresh ideas and inspiring exchanges at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) when Professor Rahat Munir, Head of Accounting and Corporate Governance of Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia together with Mr. Fahad Naveed, Regional Coordinator (South Asia), visited the campus. The International Office team extended a warm reception to the distinguished guests, setting the tone for a lively and engaging program.
The highlight of the visit was Prof. Munir’s captivating lecture on “Artificial Intelligence in Contemporary Education: Redefining Relevance.” With wisdom drawn from years of academic and supervisory experience, he delighted the audience by weaving together insights on how AI is reshaping teaching, learning, and institutional practices. From personalized learning and digital literacy to ethical dilemmas and the future of work, his talk opened a fascinating window into the classrooms of tomorrow. Students and faculty alike left the hall smiling—enriched, motivated, and perhaps even a little amused by the thought of robots sharing their lecture halls in the not-too-distant future.
Prof. Dr. Khuda Buksh, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration of CUI, wrapped up the session by thanking Prof. Munir for his thought-provoking address. The atmosphere was celebratory as the event concluded with a cheerful group photograph—a snapshot of collaboration in the making.
Beyond the lecture, discussions between Prof. Munir, the Dean, Dr. Umar Farooq Malik, Head of the Department of Management Sciences of Islamabad Campus, and Dr. Hammad Omer, T.I., Head of the International Office, paved the way for promising academic and research collaborations. Department of Physics Kicks Off Seminar Series with Talk on Magnetoelectric Materials

The Department of Physics at COMSATS University Islamabad proudly inaugurated its 2025 Seminar Series with a compelling lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Sadia Manzoor, a distinguished faculty member of the department. The event was held on Friday, April 25th, and drew enthusiastic participation from faculty, researchers, and students across various disciplines.
In her talk, titled “Magnetoelectric Materials: Intertwining Electric and Magnetic Realms,” Prof. Manzoor explored the extraordinary coupling of electric and magnetic properties in specialized materials, a field at the forefront of condensed matter physics and materials science.
The presentation delved into both naturally occurring and artificially engineered magnetoelectric (ME) materials, emphasizing:
- Composite systems, such as magnetic nanopillars embedded within different matrices
- Reduced graphene oxide (rGO)-based nanostructures with promising multifunctional behavior
- Insights into the giant magnetoresistance (GMR) effect and its role in modern data storage technologies
- Theoretical frameworks including large polaron tunneling models, used to interpret charge transport phenomena in complex media
Prof. Manzoor’s expert insights offered attendees a thorough understanding of the evolution, mechanisms, and technological implications of ME materials. The seminar sparked engaging discussions, paving the way for future research collaborations within the department and beyond.
