Lost Treasures of Swat

This research explores possibilities and is an attempt to preserve the folklore of the Swat region in Pakistan. Folklore traditionally were stories transferred through word of mouth orally from one generation to another. They consist of traditions, cultural norms and usually carry a message. Thus, the illustrations created in this design thesis are done in a way that captures the essence of these stories as well as local culture. The work takes inspiration from Persian, Timurid, Gandahara and Mughal manuscripts that recorded the king’s times and events in history and continue to live through those illustrations. This thesis also helps to keep the folklore alive forever and restore the lost traditions of Swat. These illustrations are digitally done and yet they show the historic culture and myths of the region. These stories are aimed at different age groups which cater to children and adults.
