COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) in collaboration with the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Higher Education Commission, Pakistan, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan, and Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) organized the Vice Chancellors' Forum on ‘Higher Education in the Islamic World: Challenges and Opportunities’ on June 11 -12, 2012 in Islamabad, Pakistan.

The Forum dilated the following issues:

  1. Governance of Universities;
  2. Knowledge Management;
  3. Science, Technology and Innovation; and
  4. Quality Assurance in Higher Education

Outcomes

Nearly 155 universities participated in the Forum; some 96 from within Pakistan and nearly 59 from abroad coming from 36 different countries. The Forum's resolution unanimously appreciated the CUI's efforts in making available a platform to university leaders in the Islamic world for fostering collaboration, strengthening cooperation and encouraging dialogue among them and the institutions they represent. It was resolved that such efforts should continue with a permanent secretariat (being) set-up at the CUI. Around 27 MoUs were also signed on the sidelines of the Forum. A notable program launched forthwith was establishing a pool of scholarships for the youth for higher studies at the universities offering scholarships. In this regard, the Director General, ISESCO inaugurated a 'Scholarships Web Portal’. COMSATS University Islamabad offered scholarships for the benefit of the nominees of the Islamic countries.
