Biography:

Currently, Dr. Sohail is working as Professor of Computer Science and Principal Investigator of Medical Imaging and Diagnostics Lab under National Center for Artificial Intelligence at COMSATS University Islamabad.The MIDL, NCAI is established to become the leading hub of research, innovation, training, and knowledge transfer to a large community in AI. MID Lab has developed 3 products named: BrainViz for brain tumor diagnosis, Pulmonary Diagnostic System for lung diseases detection and TASKHEES for breast cancer detection.

Prof. Sohail has served as Dean, Chairman of the academic faculties. Before joining CUI in 2011 he was the Director of the University Institute of Information Technology, PMAS-Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi. Previously, In 1994, he graduated with honors in Computer Science from the University of Wales, United Kingdom. He then recieved his PhD from Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University, Melbourne Australia in 2006. Professor Sohail has taught and researched in Data Mining (including structural Learning, Classification, and Privacy Presevation in Data Ming, Text and Web Mining), Big Data Analytics, Data Science and Information Technology areas, and he has published extensively (More than 170 publications) in international journals as well as conference proceedings. He has also consulted widely on information Technology matters, especially in the framework of Data Mining and Data Science.

Professor Sohail Asghar has contributed extensively in the field of education.

- He has more than twenty-three years of educational experience, teaching diverse course at under-graduate and graduate levels at national level as well as international level. This includes courses from the disciplines such as Data Science/Computer Science/SE and Information Systems courses.

- Professor Sohail has served in leadership roles in universities such as deans or department chairs, as well as Director to ensure the effective operation and growth of educational institutions.

- Recipient of Australian Postgraduate Award for Industry, Australian Research Council, Monash University, Jan. 2004 – April 2006.

- Professor Sohail has been instrumental in designed Outcome-based educational curriculum for Bachelor of Science, Computer Science, Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence, Bachelor of Science in Cyber Security, Bachelor of Science in Data Science, as well graduate programs in Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science at COMSATS University Islamabad.

- Have Supervised 10 PhDs, more than 150 MS graduates. At present 5 PhD Students are registered with him

- Professor Sohail is an active member of various Higher Education Commission teams responsible for developing curriculum as well as improving the quality of higher education through out Pakistan.

- Professor Sohail is a pioneer in adapting Outcome Based Education in Pakistan and is not only responsible for implementing Outcome based education at CUI but also conducted various seminars and hands on workshop to train faculty of other institutions in adapting Outcome based education.

- He has contributed to education by transforming knowledge from higher pursuit to university students.

- Professor Sohail has conducted numerous seminar, workshops and lectures at different universities for promoting research and education and to expose students to cutting edge research and technologies.
