The Department of Mechanical Engineering, COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) Wah Campus arranged an industrial visit to Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) on May 7, 2024. HIT is a premier industrial complex renowned for its heavy machinery production expertise and defense equipment manufacturing. The visit was offered to undergraduate students under the guidance of Lecturer, Arsalan Hussain. It was a unique opportunity to witness firsthand the advanced engineering processes and cutting-edge technologies employed at HIT.

The visit commenced with an informative session held at the well-equipped auditorium of Margalla Training Institute, where Colonel (Retired) Aqeel Ahmed, Principal of Margalla Training Institute, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the structure, workings, organizational setup, and capabilities of HIT across its various departments. This session provided students with invaluable insights into the diverse operations and capabilities of HIT, followed by a quick question-answer session in which the speaker comprehensively answered all the questions.

Following the presentation, students were escorted to the ARDIC Showcase section, where they had the opportunity to physically observe the products manufactured by HIT. Mr. Nadeem Azam (AWM) provided students with detailed briefings on each product, offering insights into their design, functionality, and applications.

The visit continued with a tour of the DESCOM department, where students witnessed various machining operations firsthand. From modernized CNC machines to traditional lathes and milling machines, students gained practical exposure to a wide range of manufacturing technologies. Mr. Afzal (ATO), Mr. Waqar Ahmad, and Mr. Abdullah Shafiq guided students through different operations and machines, enhancing their understanding of machining processes.

The tour concluded with a visit to the TMF department, where students observed assembly operations for various HIT products. AWM Shouqat, AWM Mashroof, and AWM Haider provided students with insights into assembly techniques and quality control measures employed by HIT.

At the end the faculty members and students extend sincere appreciation to Colonel (Retired) Aqeel Ahmed, Principal of Margalla Training Institute, for his cooperation and support throughout the visit. The collaborative efforts of all involved parties contributed to making the visit a truly enriching and memorable experience for the students
