Seminar on the theme, “Towards a Disaster Resilient Pakistan” was held on 07th October 2021
On the invitation of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) members from CCRD comprising of Prof. Dr. Athar Hussain, Head CCRD, Dr. Toqeer Ahmed, Dr. Farrukh Raza Amin, Mr. Muhammad Zahir, and Ms. Rabbia Murtaza along with students from Health Informatics Ms. Kanwal Latif and Muhammad Sohaib participated in a seminar and represented the CCRD/CUI. The theme of the seminar was “Towards a Disaster Resilient Pakistan”. It was held on 07th October 2021. The objective of National Resilience Day was to commemorate the loss of disaster affectees as well as enhance awareness amongst masses. Globally, building resilience against disasters has emerged as a key strategy for states to deal with disasters. The seminar was divided into three sessions: (I) Climate Change and Disasters; (II) Disaster Management: A Collective Responsibility; (III) COVID-19 Pandemic-A Challenge. Presenters proposed solutions to combat the effects of climate change. Recent extreme weather events and changes in the environment were linked to natural as well as anthropogenic activities. The seminar was further dialogue on Disaster Management with special focus on climate induced disasters and COVID-19 pandemic. The four-hour seminar ended with the aspirations of the participants to use the learnt knowledge to promote and sustainable practices in climate change.
