1-day Training Workshop on Geospatial Techniques for Hydrological Resources organized under Kamyab Jawan Program held on 24 June 2022.
Earth & Atmospheric Remote Sensing Lab (EARL) of Department of Meteorology, COMSATS University Islamabad, Islamabad Campus organized a 1-day Training Workshop on Geospatial Techniques for Hydrological Resources on 24 June 2022. The workshop was organized under Kamyab Jawan Program. The workshop encompassed theory and hands on training exercises and focused on capacity building of individuals to foster the understanding of concepts and practicality of Satellite Remote Sensing and GIS applications for water quality monitoring and watershed modelling. Participants learnt the basic principles and characteristics of the different types of remote sensing datasets and their suitability for water management applications and used different remote sensing products with Remote Sensing & GIS softwares’ to perform basic spatio-temporal analysis.
In the first part of training, Hydrologic Modeling System - Geospatial Hydrologic Modeling Extension (HEC-GeoHMS) and HEC-Hydrologic Modeling System (HMS) were utilized to simulate the precipitation-runoff of a particular watershed. Watershed characteristics and curve numbers were generated using HEC-GeoHMS, whereas HEC-HMS was used for model calibration, validation and simulation. Second part of training was to observe the water quality of Rawal Lake, Islamabad for which Total Suspended Matter and Chlorophyll index was measured and time series analysis was carried out to detect the variations with time.
