Industrial trip – HVAC Plant at New City Arcade

The Department of Mechanical Engineering in collaboration with ASHRAE CUI Wah Chapter arranged an industrial visit for undergraduate student seventh semester, Section 7A & 7B to HVAC Plant, New City Arcade, Wah Cantt on December 16 and 23, 2021.

The students visited multiple departments that are involved in the heating and air conditioning of the Arcade. The students visited the outdoor unit of the Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) System, which is placed on the backside of the Arcade building. After that, students were taken to the basement where they observed the under-construction fire hydrant room and pumps providing the water to the waterfall in the Arcade. The students also visited the mall and observed the indoor units, fire alarms, sprinklers, gas detectors, smoke detectors and ventilation system of the food court.

New City Arcade is a modern aspiration inspired by the Victorian era. It is an ode to art, architecture, engineering, and detailing. It is the build for shopping, entertainment, and ultra-lavish living. It occupies an important place on Islamabad's map, it puts Islamabad on the global map as a destination for tourists, investors, and the business community.

At the end students had a very fruitful interactive questions answers session with experts HVAC plant Engineers in which they discussed multiple potential Final Year Projects related to HVAC, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. Students acknowledged the emergence of multidisciplinary streams and the importance of Heating, Cooling and Refrigeration systems in the field of Mechanical Engineering.

On behalf of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mr. Bilal Nutkani and Mr. Shah Nawaz, Lab Engineers thanked Management of New City Arcade, Human Resource department and HVAC department, for their cooperation during the visit.
