A two-member delegation from Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), Norther Ireland, UK visited CUI Islamabad Campus on July 26, 2022 at 1230 hours. The delegates comprised Dr Wasif Naeem and Mr Fahad Qayyum. Dr. Wasif is a Reader at Centre for Energy, Power and Intelligent Control (EPIC) and Head of International for School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Mr. Fahad is Pakistan Country Manager for QUB.
The delegates were welcomed by representatives of International Office and taken to Junaid Zaidi Library where Senior Librarian, Hafiz Abdur Rehman briefed about library facilities and available resources particularly for students of CUI. A formal meeting was held with Mr. Ali Tawab Baloch, Head International Office and Senior Computer Science Faculty Members: Prof. Dr. Masoom Alam, Dr. Munam Ali Shah and Dr. Tahseen Zia.
The delegates informed that the QUB is in search of the academic and research collaboration and main objective of their visit was exploring multifold areas particularly 2+2, dual degree, 3+1 and 3+1+1 (to include Masters) programs and research partnerships on artificial intelligence, cyber security, robotics and autonomous systems with CUI. Dr. Wasif gave a presentation and briefed that QUB is one of the longest established universities in the UK since 1845. Most noticeable thing is that Belfast is famous for birthplace of Titanic.
The Head International Office also gave a presentation of CUI and briefed that CUI is also in search of the collaboration and plans to add significant number of strong, multi-faceted partnership with leading universities of the globe including QUB, as part of its new international strategy.
Various modes of collaboration and partnership between two universities were explored. The delegates were politely expressed doubts by the Head International Office CUI about collaboration on 2+2 (including dual degree), 3+1 and 3+1+1 programs, since these have many technical hitches and require permission of regulatory bodies.
However, to begin with collaborative links, 4+1 program - the undergraduate students graduating from CUI may be offered admission in MS/ PhD programs at QUB, student exchange for one semester, faculty exchange for two week to a semester, offer of post-doctoral fellowships, jointly organizing seminars, workshops, trainings, etc., and joint submission of research proposals for funding were agreed.
