A three-member delegation from Coventry University, UK visited COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), on January 8, 2020. The purpose of the visit was to explore possibilities of cooperation between the two universities. The delegation comprised of Deputy Vice chancellor (Research), Professor Richard Dashwood; Head School of Computing, Electronics & Mathematics, Professor Damien Foster and Professor of Systems Security at the Institute of Future Transport & Cities, Dr. Siraj Ahmed Sheikh.
The delegation was received by the Head International Office (IO) Mr. Ali tawab Baloch and his team. The delegates first met with the Rector. The Rector elaborated rich research culture of CUI and different research initiatives CUI is conceiving to augment the quality of research and teaching at all the campuses of CUI. He conveyed his interest for initiating joint scientific partnership between the academicians and researchers of CUI and Coventry University. The Deputy Vice Chancellor welcomed the idea and expressed willingness to engage in discussions for building a strategic partnership with CUI. Souvenirs were also presented to the delegates by the Rector.
Later, the delegation had meetings with Dean Business Administration, Prof. Dr. Khalid Riaz; Dean Engineering, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abid; Dean Architecture and Design, Prof. Dr. Samra Mohsin Khan and senior faculty members from E & CE, Mathematics and Civil Engineering Departments. During the meeting, many common set of research interests were identified and discussed in the areas of Electrification, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Urban Design and Safety. Different options of collaboration including internships for CUI students and early career researchers at Coventry University were also discussed between the representatives of both sides. The officials from Coventry University offered to host researchers and academicians for attending trainings under their faculty development programs. It was resolved that discussions on different options of collaboration may be continued on both sides to shape up and start the collaboration.
