Biography:

Dr Junaid Ali is an esteemed Assistant Professor and the Head of the Optoelectronics Research Laboratory (OERL) at COMSATS University Islamabad. With expertise in 2D materials, nanomaterials, printed electronics, and sensors, he has made significant contributions to these fields.

Dr. Ali embarked on his academic journey at COMSATS University Islamabad in 2006, where he joined as a lecturer. He actively engaged in teaching undergraduate courses and took on various administrative responsibilities. In 2013, he began pursuing his PhD, which he successfully completed in 2016. During his doctoral studies under the supervision of Professor Kyung-Hyun Choi at the Advanced MicroMechatronics (AMM) Lab, Jeju National University, South Korea, Dr. Ali focused on printed electronics, additive manufacturing, 3D printing, and the synthesis, characterization, and processing of nanomaterials for diverse applications such as printed resistive switching devices and sensors.

Following the completion of his PhD, Dr. Ali was selected as a researcher for a prestigious graphene flagship project at the National Graphene Institute, University of Manchester, in 2018. Working under the guidance of Nobel Laureate Sir Professor Kostya Novoselov, he further advanced his expertise in the liquid-assisted and electrochemical exfoliation of 2D materials, as well as the development of solution processable inks for printed flexible electronics.

As assistant professor and Head of the Optoelectronics Research Laboratory in the Department of Physics he leads cutting-edge research projects focused on optoelectronics, nanomaterials, and sensors. His areas of expertise include the development of light, humidity, and temperature sensors, quantum dots, nanowires, and printed electrodes resistive switching. Dr. Ali is also committed to promoting sustainability and energy harvesting through his research.

Dr. Ali's outstanding achievements include a multitude of publications in reputable journals, active participation in research projects, and recognition as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) UK, highlighting his exceptional teaching abilities. Additionally, he has been actively involved in optics and photonics outreach activities, supported by the Optical Society of America (OSA), aimed at inspiring and engaging students from diverse backgrounds.

With his expertise, leadership, and dedication to research and teaching, Dr. Ali continues to drive advancements in the fields of 2D materials, nanomaterials, printed electronics, resistive switching and sustainable technologies
