Biography:

Since 2008, Dr. Shamsul Qamar is employed as an Professor at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Islamabad, Pakistan. In 1996 and 1997, he got M.Phil (Mathematics) and MS (N.E.) degrees from Quaid-I-Azam University Islamabad . In 2001, he went to Germany and got his Ph.D. degree from the University of Magdeburg in 2003. From January 2004 to May 2008, he was a research associate at the University of Magdeburg. During that time, he was involved in teaching and postdoctoral research at the faculty of mathematics in the University of Magdeburg. In February 2008, he got his Habilitation degree (Privatdozent) in mathematics from the same University. Habilitation is the highest degree that can be achieved in academic career. He also worked as a visiting professor at the Max Planck Institute Magdeburg, Germany from 2009 to 2010. Till to date, he is regularly visiting to different German Universities and institutes for research collaborations. Dr. Qamar has broad research interests in the area of modeling simulation. Some areas of interest include; modeling population balances for chemical and biological systems, liquid chromatographic processes, conservation laws, magneto-hydrodynamics, two-phase flows, phase transitions, liquid chromatographic processes, and semiconductor devices. He has investigated several numerical methods belonging to the families of finite-volume, finite-element and finite difference methods. He has several publications in well reputed international research Journals and has an overall impact factor 270. Till now, 24 PhD students have completed their PhD studies under his supervision at the Department of Mathematics, CIIT Islamabad and 6 more students are pursuing their PhD studies under his supervision. About 40 MS students have completed MS thesis project under his supervision. Moreover, Dr. Qamar is also supervising MS and PhD students in Germany.
