Biography:

Dr. Arfat attended one of the most renowned universities of Pakistan, the University of The Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan, for graduating in Pharmacy. He was appointed as a Retail Pharmacist at Fazal Din’s Pharma Plus, Lahore, Pakistan after graduation and in the mean while he managed to qualify for Hospital Pharmacist by Punjab Public Service Commission. During his service, he started M. Phil Leading to PhD in Microbiology from Quaid-E-Azam University Islamabad, Pakistan under HEC Indigenous Scholarship Batch-I in 2006. He secured IRSIP Scholarship and spent a period of six months in a renowned Department of Biological Sciences, University of Liverpool, Liverpool, UK as Honorary Research Associate. There he worked on antibacterial resistance strains of MRSA under kind supervision of Dr. Mal Horsburgh, Senior Lecturer University of Liverpool, UK. This work was submitted as a thesis leading to Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology in 2012.

Dr. Arfat joined the Department of Pharmacy, COMSASTS University Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus, Abbottabad, Pakistan as Assistant Professor in 2012. Dr. Arfat’s particular research focus is on prevalence of antimicrobial resistant pathogenic strains and nanomedicines to combat this resistance problem. Up till now he published may research articles in these areas in renewed international journals with high impact factor. His area of research also covers the genomic changes in pathogens along with light mediated therapy to treat infections. His expertise includes nanomedicine formulations, photodynamic therapy, PCR analysis, in-vivo studies, cytotoxicity assays, microscopic studies, and antimicrobial susceptibility studies.
