Biography:

Biography

Dr. Arshad Mehmood Abbasi is Associate Professor at Department of Environmental Sciences, COMSATS University, Islamabad, Abbottabad Campus-Pakistan. Dr. Abbasi received his PhD with specialization in Ethnobotany and Nutraceuticals from Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad-Pakistan in 2013. He was award with Post Doctorate fellowship by Chinese Government in the field of Functional Foods and Nurtraceuticlas from 2014-2016. Dr. Abbasi has more than 20 years of academic and research experience in diversity, utilization and functional properties of food and medicinal plant resources of the Himalayan region of Pakistan.

Dr. Abbasi research is mainly focused on ethnomedicines, nutraceuticals, functional foods and toxicology. To date Dr. Abbasi has authored >150 research articles in peer reviewed journals with ˃ 500 Impact Factor, ˃ 4600 citations, 38 h-index and i10-index 77. He has three international books in his credit on Medicinal Plant Biodiversity of Lesser Himalayas-Pakistan, Wild Edible Vegetables of Lesser Himalayas: Ethnobotanical and Nutraceutical Aspects and Ethnobotany of Mountain Communities in Asia, which are published by Springer, USA in 2012, 2015 and 2021, respectively along with ˃ 55 book chapters. Dr. Abbasi has been included in top 2% scientists of the world by Sandford University in 2022. So far, Dr. Abbasi has been awarded three times Outstanding Research Awards by Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, two times Best Researcher Awards and five times Research Productivity Awards by COMSATS University; Foreign Expert Certificate by Chinese Government, along with many other national and international honors and certificates. Dr. Abbasi have completed projects on: Phytochemical profiling, antioxidant and anticancer properties of Mango (Mangifera) cultivars used in Guangdong Province China, awarded by Chinese Government. And currently is working as PI in Technological Development Project on: Skin care efficacy of medicinal plants from Himalayan region” as principle investigator awarded by a Chinese Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry and Phytochemical profiling and antioxidant activities of wild edible fruits in lower Himalayan region of Pakistan awarded by CUI. Dr. Abbasi is also an active team member in project on: Evaluation, adaptation studies and popularization of Kiwi Fruit in different ecologies (upper and lower altitudes) of Hazara division awarded by PARC.

Dr. Abbasi has established many national and international collaborations including USA, China, Italy, Spain, Saudi Arabia and Georgia. He is also focal person in MoU between CUI Abbottabad and University of Gastronomic Sciences Italy. Dr. Abbasi is also serving as editor of several journals of international repute and is also active reviewer of many journals published by Elsevier, Wiley, Springer, Taylor & Francis and Royal Society of Chemistry. Dr. Abbasi is also member of International Society of Ethnobiology; Society of Ethnobiology, University of North Texas, USA; American Chemical Society (ASC), and Institutional APIFP Champion: Asia Pacific Institute of Food Professionals.
