Biography:

Tenured Associate Prof. Dr. Javed Iqbal assumed the role of  In-charge Software Engineering (SE) Program in May 2023 and has overall more than 22 years of experience in teaching, research, and development including more than 18 years experience at the Computer Science Department, COMSATS University Islamabad,  Pakistan (Joined COMSATS University Islamabad on August 27, 2005, as Lecturer, was promoted to Assistant Professor on April 12, 2011 and to Tenured Associate Professor on July 01, 2023). Currently, he is working as an Associate Professor in the Computer Science Department. He accomplished his Master in Computer Science from the PMAS-AA University, Rawalpindi, Pakistan and then a Master in Software Engineering from the National University of Science & Technology (NUST), Pakistan. Dr. Javed received PhD degree from the University of Malaya (UM), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He was awarded the Bright Sparks scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia; and the University of Malaya Kuala Lumpur to pursue PhD from the University of Malaya which is ranked among the top 100 universities of the world and was ranked 59th  in the QS World University Rankings® 2021.                        

  Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Software Process Improvement, Requirements Engineering, Databases, Information Systems, Software Development Outsourcing and Global Software Development are his areas of concentration. Dr. Javed has published dozens of research papers in Impact Factor journals and international conferences, and has successfully supervised 26 MS students. Currently, he is supervising several MS and PhD students. From January 2002 to February 2003, he worked as a software developer at Unisoft, Blue Area, Islamabad, Pakistan with areas of expertise in C, C++, Oracle, MS Access, SQL Server. Dr. Javed was designated as an investigator for a research project titled "Cloud-Based Outsourced Software Development”, under the research grant RG-490/41 of the amount 75, 000 Saudi Riyal, undertaken by King Saud University Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He is the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan approved PhD supervisor in the discipline of Engineering & Technology.

   Dr. Javed is an IEEE member and is serving as an External Member/Examiner for various universities to participate in Graduate Advisory Committee (GAC) proceedings, and to evaluate thesis at graduate and undergraduate levels. Some of the universities/ institutions are The Superior College Lahore, National University of Computer & Emerging Sciences (NUCES) Islamabad, National University of Computer & Emerging Sciences (NUCES) Chiniot-Faisalabad Campus, National University of Modern Languages (NUML) Islamabad, University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) Muzaffarabad, Baha-ud-din Zakariya University(BZU) Multan, and Federal Urdu University Islamabad.

   Dr. Javed has also been providing services as a reviewer or editor for several journals and conferences. He has served as Technical Program Committee (PC) member and reviewer for FIT 2016, FIT 2017, FIT 2018, FIT 2019, FIT 2021, FIT 2022, FIT 2023, ISPM2019, EASE 2022 ,and IEEE workshop DDBDM 2022 (QRS 2022: 22nd IEEE International Conference on Software Quality, Reliability and Security). He has been reviewing research papers for numerous international and national journals. Some of the international journals are Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics, Journal of Internet Technology (JIT), IEEE Access, Soft Computing, Journal of Information and Knowledge Management (JIKM), Automated Software Engineering, Computer Communication and PLOS ONE whereas nation journals include Technical Journal UET Taxila, International Journal of Information Systems and Computer Technologies (IJISCT) by BZU Multan and Sukkur IBA Journal of Computing and Mathematical Sciences (SJCMS).

  Dr. Javed joined an NGO “Young Social Welfare & Educational Association Langerpura (Regd.)”, Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir in 2001. Since then he has been actively participating in the activities assigned by NGO, in particular to cope with the situation revealed after the earthquake of October 08, 2005, in Azad Kashmir. NGO works specifically in the fields of Education, Water and Sanitation, Vocational Training, Information Technology and Environment. He became member of another NGO “Sahil”, http://www.sahil.org. Sahil is the only organization in Pakistan that works exclusively against the issue of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation. Its head office is situated in Islamabad and there are four referral units and one partnership unit extended to all the provinces of Pakistan. The mission of Sahil is to create a better future for the children of Pakistan through advocacy, creating support systems for children, awareness of body protection, and enhancing legal and psychological services for victims of child sexual abuse.
