Biography:

Dr. Amara Mumtaz currently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry, COMSATS University Islamabad Abbottabad campus. She did her PhD (under 5000 indigenous scholarships sponsored by a higher education commission of Pakistan) with the thesis title “synthesis, characterization and biological activities of five and six membered heterocycles and biheterocycles” under the supervision of Prof Dr Aamer Saeed Bhatti from the department of Chemistry, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad. During her PhD she visited the group of Prof Varinder Aggarwal at school of chemistry University of Bristol, UK under IRSIP scholarship and did the asymmetric synthesis of morpholine heterocycles. During her MSc and M. Phil studies at Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad she won university merit scholarships. After completion of her PhD studies, she joined the Department of Chemistry, COMSATS University Islamabad Abbottabad on 01.02.2011 as an Assistant Professor under Interims Placement of Fresh PhD scheme (IPFP) by HEC. She is the first person at the department of Chemistry CUI, Abbottabad who initiated the organic synthesis. On her excellent performance CUI appointed her Assistant professor on TTS on 20.12.11. Since her stay at the Department of Chemistry at COMSATS University Islamabad Abbottabad she has supervised/co-supervised 28 MS students from Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy. Currently she is supervising three MS one PhD student from Department of Chemistry. Based on her research excellence she has been conformed upon research productivity award by her institution. Also, she was nominated by her institution to the group of Professor Peter Langer, Department of Chemistry, University of Rostock, Germany for two months research stay under DAAD funded project “cooperation between Pakistani and German Universities” in the year 2013 and did the solvent free palladium catalyzed coupling reactions. Later on she won postdoctoral scholarship funded by French Embassy Pakistan to the group of Prof Serge Thorimbert, university of Pierre Et Marie Curie (UPMC), Paris France for the academic year 2014-2015. During her stay in UPMC she did the synthesis and ring activation of Pyridooxazinone “rings of the future”. After her successful evaluation on TRP by foreign experts followed by selection board and BOG she got promoted to the position of Associate professor (tenured) since 20.04.18. So far she has 58 publications with an impact factor of above 140 and 829 citations (h-index:12, I10 index:19).
