Biography:

Dr. Jabir H. Syed is a distinguished environmental scientist with extensive expertise in air quality monitoringclimate change, and environmental toxicology. He currently serves as a Tenured Associate Professor at the Department of Meteorology, COMSATS University Islamabad. With a strong international profile, Dr. Syed is a former Visiting Research Fellow at the University of California, Davis, USA, and a Presidential Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Dr. Syed’s primary research interests center on atmospheric chemistry and the impacts of aerosols on the environment and climate systems. His pioneering work has contributed significantly to understanding ambient air pollution dynamicstransboundary haze, and aerosol-climate interactions in South Asia. In addition, he has made substantial contributions to the field of environmental toxicology, particularly in developing baseline data for major environmental contaminants in Pakistan’s terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Dr. Syed’s excellence has been recognised by prestigious institutions. He was twice nominated among the Most Productive Young Researchers in Earth & Environmental Sciences by the Pakistan Council for Science & Technology (PCST) for the years 2017 and 2018. In 2017, he received the Best Research Paper Award from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan.

Beyond academia, Dr. Syed has actively contributed to policy and development work. He currently serves as an Air Quality Expert with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), providing technical guidance on air quality initiatives in Pakistan. He has also supported the Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC), Government of Pakistan, in the development of the National Chemical Policy and the Updated National Implementation Plan (NIP) for the elimination of POPs under the Stockholm Convention. Previously, Dr. Syed worked as a Capacity Needs Assessment Specialist with the World Bank-funded project “Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CARE) for South Asia”, implemented by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC). His interdisciplinary background and strategic insight continue to inform high-impact research and policy development in the areas of air pollution controlclimate resilience, and environmental health risk management across South Asia.
