Dr. Jabir Syed is serving as a Tenured Associate Professor of Environmental Studies in the Department of Meteorology at COMSATS University Islamabad. He leads the research group "Environmental & Air Quality Research Lab" at CUI and currently a Visiting International Scholar at the Department of Environmental Toxicology, University of California, Davis U.S.A. A former PIFI fellow of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, Dr. Syed’s research primarily focuses on atmospheric chemistry and the impacts of aerosols on the environment and climate.
Dr. Syed is actively involved in lab-based and field observational studies on aerosol particles, utilizing advanced instruments. His work includes comprehensive analyses of data to understand atmospheric aerosol properties and toxicity. Additionally, he has contributed significantly to the field of ecotoxicology, establishing baseline data for major environmental contaminants in Pakistan. His expertise in monitoring and analyzing organic pollutants has earned him national and international recognition.
Dr. Jabir Syed has recently completed several collaborative projects focused on climate advocacy, climate adaptation and resilience, circular economy, and sustainability. He collaborates with a wide range of international organizations, including universities, research institutions, UN-based organizations, and NGOs/INGOs. These partnerships aim to develop basic capacity development modules and promote community engagement in the fields of climate change and sustainable development, particularly in the climate vulnerable communities and urban areas.
Dr. Syed's name is also included among the top cited Environmental Scientists in Pakistan by Research.com. He was twice nominated by the Pakistan Council for Science & Technology (PCST) as one of the best young researchers in Earth & Environmental Sciences for the years 2017 and 2018.
