Dr. Khan is responsible for the overall management of the program. He also serves as the Senior Research Scientist with the Universities Space Research Association (USRA) at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s George C. Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). Currently based in Washington, DC, his research focuses on understanding the complex coupling between human and natural systems, the role space technology, computational science, and cognitive science can play in ensuring sustainable global development, and the use of data from Earth Observing Systems (EOS) within Earth System Models (ESM). In his capacity as a Senior Scientist Dr. Khan interacts with a variety of national and international organizations tasked with finding solutions to problems associated with socioeconomic development and demographic change, under a changing global climate. He served as a Session Chairperson and Co-chair Program Committee of the United Nations Office of Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA)/Turkey/European Space Agency workshop on Space Technology Applications for Socio-Economic Benefits hosted by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) in collaboration with International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) and NASA, 14-17 September, 2010 in Istanbul, Turkey, and Member of the Program Committee for the 2011 conference held in Hanoi, Vietnam. Dr. Khan attended the University of Engineering and Technology in Lahore, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, Georgia, and George Washington University in Washington, DC.
