Biography:

Dr. Farhana Jabeen received MS (2004–2006) in Software Engineering from Electrical & Mechanical Engineering (E&ME) College, NUST, Pakistan, with distinction. The award of distinction rendered her recipient of a bursary to study for her Doctorate.   Later on, she acquired Schlumberger Foundation, Faculty for the Future grant to complete her PhD. She earned her PhD (2006–2011) from School of Computer Science, The University of Manchester. After completing her PhD, Dr. Jabeen joined COMSATS University, Islamabad as Assistant Professor (tenure track) in 2011.  Currently, she is working as Tenured Associate Professor. Her research Interests revolve around different aspects of cyber security and distributed networks, particularly the development of solutions (architectures, algorithms, and protocols) for emerging paradigms specifically Name Data Networking (NDN), Software Defined Networking (SDN), the Internet of Things (IoT), VANETs, Edge cloud computing, E-health, and 5th generation communication. Her work has appeared in several journals and conferences. She has also started to establish herself in the wider research community and has been called to serve as technical programme committee member, conference track chair,  and associate editor. As a senior research supervisor, she supervise MS, and PhD research students.

During her stay at Manchester University, she served as a Research Assistant (2006–2010) in the Information Management Laboratory, and as a Teaching Assistant (2006–2010) in the School of Computer Science. In the UK, her research focus was on distributed query processing and distributed spatial analysis over wireless sensor networks (WSNs). As a Research Assistant, Dr. Jabeen worked on the project “SNEE (SNEE for Sensor NEtwork Engine) query optimizer” funded by DIAS-MC project funded by the UK EPSRC WINES programme under Grant EP/C014774/1”, 2006-2007 (http://snee.cs.manchester.ac.uk/publications.html).

Before embarking on her PhD, Dr. Jabeen served briefly as Lecturer at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), Rawalpindi. During her professional career as a lecturer and researcher at FJWU, apart from enhancing her academic excellence, Dr.  Jabeen got various opportunities to act in various other roles to carry out administration and projects management.   Dr. Jabeen performed the responsibilities of Head of Computer Science Department (2002-2004). In 2003, Dr. Jabeen acquired the grant of Rs. 34 million from HEC, Pakistan. As a principal investigator of the project, Dr. Jabeen worked for the deployment and management of University Intranet (using fiber optic in the backbone) connecting together all the schools at FJWU University including the setup of computer labs in various schools. At COMSATS University,  Dr. Jabeen got various opportunities to act in other roles such as Incharge program Bachelor in Cyber Security, member Graduate Academic Committee (GAC), and Accreditation Incharge.

In Pakistan, Higher Education Commission (HEC) has setup an accreditation authority, National Computing Education Accreditation Council (NCEAC), which is a recognized accredit of universities and their computing programs in Pakistan. She served as a Member Council (NCEAC) (2013-2017) and currently serving and as a Program Evaluator (NCEAC) (2013--).
