Biography:

Prof. Muhammad Abid is working as Director Interdisciplinary Research and Chairman and Professor of Mechanical Engineering in COMSATS University Islamabad since last 4.5 years. Over the last almost 18 years, he has served as one of the best teachers and researcher and very good administrator. He served as Dean and Professor in GIK Institute for more than 3 years. He holds valuable industrial professional experience in one of the largest engineering concerns in Pakistan for more than 8 years. He has supervised 5 PhD and 40 MS students, published 12 books, 116 journal papers (with Impact factor of >100), 12 books, 5 book chapters and more than 155 conference papers. He has developed and implemented 2 graduate programs in Advanced Design and Manufacturing and Computational Mechanics with EU and US partners while his stay at GIK Institute. He has developed and implemented MS program in Mechanical Engineering and developed Computational Engineering at COMSATS. He has started BS and MS ME program at COMSATS Wah Campus from Fall 2018. Prof. Abid brought international and national funded projects with innovative ideas and with substantial amount from EU, USAID, NSF, HEC, IDB, PSF, NCSF, defense and industry Presently has submitted certain projects to national and international funding agencies. In recognition to his contribution in the field of Engineering and Technology, he is already awarded honorarium, merit certificates, cash awards, PAS Gold Medal Award, HEC Outstanding Research Award, MOSS Prize from EU, HEC Best University Teacher Award and others. He has also signed certain MoUs with international universities of China, UK, Italy, Ukarine, Kazakhstan and others for joint research, student and faculty exchanges. He has the honor of being the national coordinator for Design, Build and Fly competition for 9 years on behalf of STEM HEC and supervision of first PhD students in Mechanical Engineering funded by HEC. With strong industrial linkages, he has recently vitalized a mega project with defense sector and signed MoU, to provide real world problem solutions of national needs. He is Fellow of IMechE and Vice Chair Pak Chapter and Life time member of Pakistan Engineering Council and Expert for OBE based accreditation team. He is also Mentor for UNIDO CleanTech program, Coordinator for DICE IET Pak Chapter, Chair Impartiality Committee for CeSP, judge for Intl design competitions and many other national and international platforms.
