Biography:

I am currently working as Head, Department of Management Sciences, COMSATS University Islamabad. I am extremely interested in this position at CUI as my commitment to undergraduate and graduate education, interest and experience with study programs. I bring extensive presentation, research and organizational skills that I have developed over my 12-year academic career as a faculty member at CUI. My objective as a teacher is to motivate my students to develop their own learning interests and critical thinking—to establish a learner-centered environment in the classroom. I am teaching a wide range of courses—from first semester Introduction to Mgt. Sciences to Specialization courses in HR/Management. I prepare lesson plans always considering the interconnection between the student’s own knowledge, culture and learning abilities, the subject matter discussed in class, and current debates on business issues. I choose content and activities that are both significant and challenging for the students so that they are stimulated to think “beyond” their comfort zone and feel involved in their own learning process. Similarly, the activities and class discussions I facilitate encourage students to make connections between my field of study and other disciplines. Collaborative learning is also central to my teaching philosophy in order to promote reflective thinking and improve the students’ communicative and trans-cultural skills. The application of technology and computer-based material in the classroom are helpful tools in the promotion of meaningful learning through collaborative work as well. My commitment and approach to teaching have been rewarded with the highest teaching evaluations an instructor can receive: in an institution particularly dedicated to outstanding teaching, I am consistently among the top 10% of all faculty members and teaching assistants. I believe that clear, open communication with students is a key element in helping them learn. In my prospective career as a faculty member at CUI, I look forward to working in a collaborative learning and teaching environment with both faculty and students, where I can develop courses incorporating innovative teaching techniques and the most recent theories and research through an interdisciplinary approach. I am excited at the prospect of teaching basic and advanced courses and I feel that I could contribute to several the other courses at both the introductory and intermediate level. I would also welcome the opportunity to develop new courses according to departmental needs. Over the past decade, I have filled academic roles in several areas of Management Sciences, including Human Resources Management & Development, Organizational Behavior, Entrepreneurship, Knowledge Management and Research Methodology. My interpersonal and communication skills have allowed me to build strong relationships with administrators, Professors, fellow and other faculty and administrative personnel, leading to the effective development of course syllabi, classroom materials and program improvements.
