Biography:

Dr. Rehman has experience in academia, software development, project management, open source software development and promotion. He has received his educational and academic training at university of Peshawar, Foundation University Islamabad and UET Lahore. He earned PhD in computer science from University of Engineering and Technology Lahore in the year 2014 with the focus on data stream mining, context-awareness and ubiquitous data mining. During 2008-2012, he was the part of Al-Khawarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS) UET Lahore (CS research center) where he gained essential analytical, developmental, data mining and machine learning, and process thinking skills. He developed multiple research proposals and also won research grant for KICS. He was the project lead to establish academia-industry linkage and developed multiple research and development projects for a telecom operator in Pakistan. As a PhD fellow, he taught multiple courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels at UET Lahore. He remained the permanent organizing member of ICOST (IEEE International conference) organized by KICS annually and conducted various workshops on open source systems and technologies. In the year 2012, Dr. Rehman moved to strategic plan division, ministry of defense Pakistan, and build a team to perform data mining and knowledge discovery classified work. He hired number of human resources, trained them and build a system to discover anomalous pattern. The system designed and developed was deployed in the desired environment to fulfill the objectives of development. Dr. Rehman utilized his experience of research and development to achieve objectives of R&D wing of strategic plan department and played a vital role in developing a PC-I document for funding. Dr. Rehman joined COMSATS institute of information technology (now COMSATS University Islamabad) as assistant professor in the early 2015. He is responsible to teach both at graduate and undergraduate levels. Along with teaching responsibilities, he is an active researcher and developing research proposals and also producing research articles. Dr. Rehman is providing guidance to students in their projects and research work as well. Some management responsibilities like associate head and department operating manager, convener campus discipline committee, member research and evaluation committee, convener campus purchase committee are being performed by him. There are number of students working under his supervision to complete their research projects relating to data mining and machine learning. Dr. Rehman is actively working on industry-academia collaboration to get students in touch with the needs of industry and blending the final year projects with the flavor of industrial research. He has secured an initial research grant from HEC and few more research proposals are in the pipeline that have been submitted to the funding agencies. Along with funded projects and research grants, Dr. Rehman is an active researcher and has authored/co-authored many research articles that are indexed in Scopus and ISI web of knowledge and published in prominent journals and well reputed national and international conferences.
