Dr. Awais Ali has been serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI), Pakistan since August 25, 2014. He initially worked on yearly contracts until December 31, 2017, after which he was awarded a Tenure Track position starting January 1, 2018. Dr. Ali maintains active international collaborations, including his work at the National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 2015 and as a visiting researcher at TU Dortmund, Germany, from 2016 to 2018. He was also awarded a TRIL fellowship, which enabled him to visit Elettra, Italy, in 2019. Additionally, he completed a one-year postdoctoral research fellowship at CNR, Italy, during 2021-2022.
Dr. Ali's research primarily focuses on tuning and tailoring thin film and nanomaterial growth for applications in sensing, energy harvesting, and memory storage devices. During his tenure at CUI, he has published over 45 research articles with a cumulative impact factor exceeding 200 in indexed journals, which have been cited more than 880 times. His h-index is 15, and his i10-index is 25. He has supervised or co-supervised over 30 MS/BS students and currently oversees the work of 8 PhD/MS/BS students. Dr. Ali has secured over 8 research grants from local and international organizations and currently holds additional responsibilities as the Program In-Charge of the BS Physics program and manages the Center for Micro and Nano Devices.
