Biography:

Sajid Qamar completed his PhD under the supervision of Prof. M. Suhail Zubairy (SI, HI) from the Department of Electronics, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad in 2000. During PhD he was a visiting scholar at the Department of Physics, Hong Kong Baptist University, HK, China where he worked with Prof. Shi-Yao Zhu.
After completing his PhD, he went for his post-doctoral research, initially, to the Hong Kong Baptist University where he worked with Prof. Shi-Yao Zhu. Later, he went to Texas A&M University, College Station, USA and joined Institute for Quantum Studies for his post-doctoral studies. He was a visiting scientist at the Max-Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics, Heidelberg, Germany.

In 2003, he joined Faculty of Computer Science & Engineering (FCSE), Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI), Topi as Assistant Professor and in 2005, he was appointed as Acting Dean of FCSE. Later he moved to Islamabad and joined COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad (now COMSATS University Islamabad) in 2007 as Associate Professor in the Centre for Quantum Physics. This Centre was the brain child of internationally renowned physicist Prof. M. Suhail Zubairy of TEXAS A&M University. In 2009, he became Associate Director of the Center. In 2010, he was given Professor of Physics position and was appointed as Chairman of the Department of Physics CIIT (CUI). He completed his second tenure as Chairman in July 2015. In October 2017, he has been given the charge of the the Department of Physics and he continued his services as HoD for the next two years.
Besides CUI (previous CIIT), he has been involved in curriculum and faculty development of different universities of Pakistan as a member of different statutory bodies of these universities. He remained a part of different evaluation and selection committees of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan for the faculty development and research projects, respectively.
His research includes both tehoretical as well as experimental fields, i.e., quantum optics, atomic emission spectroscopy, digital signal & image processing, internet protocols, and wireless sensor networks. He enjoys a strong international research collaborations with researchers in USA, Germany, China, Saudi Arabia, and Taiwan. He is an active reviewer of more than 20 international journals which include journals published by American Physical Society, Optical Society of America, Institute Of Physics, and Elseveir. Besides several BS projects and MS theses, four PhD theses have been completed under his supervision. 

Prof. Qamar has established a research group "Quantum Optics Lab" in the Department of Physics, CIIT, Islamabad. The group is consisted of follwoing members:
