Biography:

With a decade-long commitment to academia, Saima Nawaz is a Tenured Associate Professor of Economics at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI). Her significant contributions span governance, trade, poverty, and energy. Dr. Nawaz completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Boston University, USA, focusing on pivotal studies in poverty alleviation and social protection. In 2018, she served as a Visiting Research Fellow at Western Michigan University, USA.

She successfully completed a comprehensive training course titled "Evaluating Social Programs" through J-PAL Executive Education at MIT, Cambridge, USA, in 2018. These experiences enhanced her analytical skills and deepened her understanding of sustainable development.

Dr. Nawaz holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the prestigious Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) in 2013 and a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of the Punjab, Pakistan. Her extensive research portfolio includes 30 published articles in reputable national and international journals. She has showcased her expertise in conferences and secured research grants while supervising numerous Ph.D., MPhil, MBA, and BS students.

In leadership roles, Dr. Nawaz served as the Associate Head of the Department of Economics at CUI from September 2018 to December 2021. She received accolades for her commitment to excellence, including the PIDE Annual Research Competitive Grant on Energy in 2013 and the Best Paper Award at the "Emerging Market and the New Dynamics of Management" Conference 2012 organized by the International Management Research Academy (IMRA) in London, United Kingdom (UK).

As a continual learner and active member of the academic community, Dr. Nawaz actively participates in workshops and training events. She brings her innovative spirit to the classroom, having taught various courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
