The Department

About Us

The Department of Economics aims to contribute at the frontier of knowledge in all core areas of Economics. Currently, it is one of the leading departments in the field of Economics in Pakistan in terms of PhD faculty strength and diversity of offered courses and research publications. The department has more than twenty faculty members including 14 PhDs having their doctoral degrees from reputed national and international universities.

At present the department is offering BS Economics (4 years) and MS Economics (2 years) Programs. For talented students department offers full tuition fee waiver scholarships at both undergraduate and graduate levels in each semester for the entire study period. The courses offered in the programs are at par with international standards and meet industry needs. The department provides state of the art teaching and research environment. Beside teaching and research, lectures of renowned guest speakers from industry and research institutes are organized on regular basis. In addition, job fairs are organized twice a year to support students in starting their careers.

Scholarships

The aim of the department of economics is to attract talented and high quality students by offering them prestigious scholarships. To achieve this objective, the department offers "Tuition Fee Waiver Scholarship" to the students at both graduate (MS Economics) and under graduate (BS Economics) levels for the full duration of their study. Under this scholarship, the awardees are waived of their full tuition fee in all semesters provided they maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.00, and no "C" grade or below in any course in any semester. However, students are required to pay allied charges in each semester. The eligibility criteria and other details of the scholarship are as under:

BS (Economics)

  • Maximum number of scholarships in each semester is 20.
  • The duration of the scholarship is 8 semesters (maximum). After 8 semesters, student has to pay full dues of the semester including tuition fee.
  • The minimum eligibility criterion is 80% marks in intermediate or equivalent.
  • Awardee is required to maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.00, and no "C" grade or below in any course in any semester.
  • If CGPA falls below 3.00, or a "C" or lower grade is obtained in a course in a semester, the scholarship will be suspended. The resumption of scholarship will require re-obtaining a minimum CGPA of 3.00 with no "C" or lower grade in next semester.
  • Awardee is required to pay allied charges in each semester. All charges other than tuition fee fall in this category.

MS (Economics)

  • Maximum number of scholarships in each semester is 15.
  • The duration of scholarship is 4 semesters (maximum). After 4 semesters student has to pay full dues of the semester including tuition fee.
  • The minimum eligibility criteria for MS Economics program is:
    • Minimum 75% marks in relevant sixteen years of education in annual system.
    • OR
    • Minimum 3.5 CGPA in BS or equivalent in semester system.
  • Awardee is required to maintain a minimum CGPA of 3.00, and no "C" grade or below in any course in any semester.
  • If CGPA falls below 3.00, or a "C" or lower grade is obtained in a course in a semester, the scholarship will be suspended. The resumption of scholarship will require re-obtaining a minimum CGPA of 3.00 with no "C" or lower grade in next semester.
  • Awardee is required to pay allied charges in each semester. All charges other than tuition fee fall in this category.
